Baroque Opera, Shakespearian Theatre, Early Music...

Bonifaccio's L'ARTE DE' CENNI (1616) is a key source for Baroque Gesture and Historical Acting, detailing gestures not only of the hands but of every part of the body, from head to toes.

This English translation, by opera director, baroque harpist and Historical Action specialist Andrew Lawrence-King, makes Bonifaccio's detailed information accessible to modern readers, together with an introduction, editorial commentary and a reverse index.

Bonifaccio catalogues each part of the body, assigning meaning to each movement. Andrew Lawrence-King's reverse index is organised by emotional and rhetorical content, allowing actors and directors to search for the appropriate gesture for specific words in the play text, or particular emotions.

The Art of Gesture will be published during the coming year. Sign up with the form at the top of this page to receive a free preview and/or to reserve an option to buy the complete book at a discount.
